Meta AI Voice Mode to Offer Human-Like Conversations on WhatsApp

WhatsApp for Android is expected to introduce a two-way voice chat feature for its in-app AI chatbot, Meta AI. According to recent reports, this voice mode will include a variety of voices from well-known personalities, providing users the avenue to tailor their own experience. Additionally, voices from both the US and UK are expected to be part of the update. The Meta AI voice mode aims to offer conversations that closely resemble human dialogue.

This information about the public figure voices was discovered by WABetaInfo, a well-known Android experimental release 2.24.19.32 of WhatsApp includes a distinctive feature tracker. Currently, the feature is not available for use, even for participants in The Google Beta Initiative.

A screenshot shared by the feature tracker reveals that WhatsApp is working on providing a diverse spectrum of vocal options for Meta AI. Anticipations are for these voices to differ in pitch, tone, and accent, creating a unique user experience. The setup is likely to be similar to ChatGPT's Voice Mode, which already offers different voice options.

According to the tracker, users can anticipate three distinct British accents and a couple of voices with a US accent. While specific details about the voices, such as gender, pitch, or regional accents, have not been revealed, it has been noted that four public figure voices will be available. While their identities remain undisclosed, they could potentially be influencers or celebrities.

This development aligns with Meta’s previous initiatives. Last year, the company presented customized AI conversational agents on Messenger, reflecting the distinct personas of public figures, celebrities and influencers. The addition of voice options in WhatsApp seems to be a continuation of that strategy, which may expand further with AI characters.

An earlier report also provided a glimpse of the Meta AI Voice Mode interface in WhatsApp. When activated, it will display a bottom sheet with the label "Meta AI" positioned at the zenith with a cerulean halo emblem centralized.
